Youth Adaptation Programme

Built to Close the Network Gap

Technology is reshaping careers faster than most classrooms can keep up with, and the traditional path from qualification to job has become far less certain than it once was. For young Ghanaians, that shift lands on top of an education system that often teaches theory without the practical, real-world skills employers are actually asking for.

What used to close that gap, a mentor in your field, a scholarship you heard about early, a chance to study or connect internationally, has always depended heavily on who you already knew. That’s precisely the barrier the Youth Adaptation Programme, YAP, was built to remove.

YAP is Starlight’s answer to a simple question: what happens once a young person is ready to grow, but doesn’t have anyone in their corner to show them how? Free webinars connect participants directly with professionals already excelling in their fields. Mentorship pairs young people with experienced guides. Skills training, financial literacy education and scholarship information turn good intentions into real, actionable next steps, and exchange opportunities open doors to institutions and networks far beyond Ghana’s borders.

We built it to be largely virtual and entirely free for exactly this reason, so that a young person’s postcode or their family’s connections never decide how far their ambition is allowed to travel.

The next stage for YAP is deepening what already works, moving from occasional webinars towards longer, structured mentorship relationships, and turning the exchange partnerships from an ambition on paper into real, running opportunities young Ghanaians can actually apply for.

We also see this programme as the next chapter for young people who’ve already grown through Starlight’s other work, a Teach Them Young graduate finishing school, a Menso Meka Ho Bi teenager heading towards Senior High School and beyond, a young EquiAccess advocate ready to think about their own career. YAP is where that growth should be able to continue, rather than a separate audience entirely.

Help a Young Person Build Their Own Map

Professionals can give an hour of their time as a webinar speaker or mentor. Universities and youth organisations can partner with us to widen the network. Donors can help fund scholarships and exchange opportunities that turn potential into a real, funded next step. However you’re able to show up, there’s a young person on the other end who’s been waiting for exactly that.
