YouThrive Digital

A Digital World, an Invisible Child.

Education, employment, even civic life increasingly run through a screen. Knowing how to use a computer, navigate the internet safely, and understand basic digital tools has quietly become a condition of getting ahead, in Ghana as much as anywhere else. But access to that world, a working computer, reliable internet, someone qualified to teach it, is still deeply unequal, and it’s underprivileged and rural communities that consistently draw the short straw.

For street-connected and underprivileged youth specifically, this isn’t a minor inconvenience. It’s a second barrier stacked directly on top of the ones they already carry. A young person who’s already missed out on stable schooling now risks missing out on the digital economy too, not because they lack the ability, but because nobody ever put a laptop and a trained teacher in front of them.

YouThrive Digital exists to close that gap. We deliver hands-on training in coding, programming, web development, data analysis, digital marketing and graphic design, real, employable skills rather than a general introduction to computers. We deliberately prioritise the schools, youth clubs and community organisations currently without the equipment or trained staff to teach any of this themselves, in Accra and beyond.

This was never just about digital literacy for its own sake. It’s about making sure the digital economy has room in it for young people it would otherwise pass by entirely, whether that means a first job, a freelance skill, or a business of their own.

From Trained to Employed

Training is the first half of the promise. The next stage is making sure it actually leads somewhere, deepening our partnerships with tech companies so mentorship and internships turn into real placements, and building the tracking to know, honestly, how many graduates go on to paid digital work or a business of their own.

We’re also working to extend beyond the three communities reached so far, into the rural and deprived urban areas this project was always meant to prioritise, so that geography stops being one more reason a young person gets left offline.

Help Put the Digital Economy Within Reach

Tech companies can offer mentorship, internships or a first real project for a graduate to point to. Schools and youth organisations can host a training cohort. Donors can help fund the laptops, data and trainers that make every session possible. Whichever way you’re able to help, it’s one more young person who gets to build a future the digital economy would otherwise have written off.
