Through the “Let Her Know” initiative, the Starlight Foundation involves boys as supportive allies in its menstrual hygiene programme. Thanks to funding support from Wings of Support, we have connected with students at Suprodu Methodist Junior High School to discuss the significance of menstrual health and ways to stay safe during their cycles.
Working alongside professionals from the Ghana Health Service, we held open discussions about menstruation without the usual stigma. While girls received sustainable reusable pads and options for disposable pads for times when water is scarce, boys also participated in the learning by accessing educational materials about proper menstrual hygiene and how to support their peers.
This initiative supports the goals of Quality Education and Gender Equality by breaking down harmful taboos and fostering an inclusive school environment where everyone can thrive. As we gear up for Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025, it is encouraging to see these communities adopt a more positive approach to menstruation, focusing on understanding, respect, and collective support.
