Many times, people trace the missing link in Ghana’s industrial development to the neglect of Vocational Education and Training. Although Vocational Education and Training is recognized as an important subsector for the attainment of industrial development in Ghana, the training content at levels are outdated and the qualities of training and learning have continued to decline. It is believed a country cannot achieve any meaningful results without paying particular attention to Vocational Training at all levels. 

 

Lack of Vocational Training Services has the devastating potential to create a severe economic impact. Young people have struggled with life and they need a hand that can support them through Vocational Training that can equip them with constructive Knowledge and Reliable Skills. It is noticed that 60% of the youth in their productive years, lack of direction which has contributed greatly to affect the development and economic output of the country.

 

LET THEM GROW is a long-term project to equip young men and women with the technical and professional skills needed for the socio-economic development of the country. The emphasis is on the training of people for self –employment. This is basically to foster communities in which no training and educational opportunities have previously existed. The goal is to motivate to make up 70% of the participants mainly girls over a hundred (100) youth will be working either independently or in newly created jobs after the end of the project. 

 

Vocational Training provides a mixed knowledge and career-focused, hands-on and skills-based training that is needed to run the productive sectors of the economy and build the nation. It is particularly meant to provide avenues for skills development for the youth.

Rationale

The purpose of this training is to equip young men and women with the technical and professional skills needed for the socio-economic development of the country. This project is particularly keen to foster communities in which no training and educational opportunities have previously existed. The goal is to motivate to make up to 70% of the participants mainly girls. Over 100 youths will be working either independently or in newly created jobs after the end of the project.  

 

The project is important as it will build the capacity of local people to prepare, and learn to acquire the requisite skills. The project will ensure that there is continuous training for the youth at the selected communities. It will further reduce teenage pregnancy and single parents where is high in the deprived communities. With the implementation of the project, the donor will serve the money for other equally important development issues as the project will serve permanent training for the youth.

Starlight Foundation is a best-suited organization to implement this project since the function falls under it as they have in the past worked closely with the district council in projects in the area and it is still working with the district council and other NGOs.

Project Objectives

The main goal of the project is to motivate to make up 70% of the participants mainly girls over a hundred (100) youth will be working either independently or in newly created jobs after the end of the project.

 

We hope to reduce vulnerability and dependency among the young people as well as to mobilize and sensitize youths in rural communities of our project catchments.

 

Advocacy and mainstreaming of vocational training skills

To advocate and mainstream vocational training skills with other training, solve the problem of unemployment among the youth living in such deprived communities. Also, provide Counseling and Guidance services to youths on career choice and decision making. 

 

Project Outputs

At the end of the project hundred (100) youth will be trained to be independently to create their jobs.

 

This project is aiming at addressing youth sustainable skills and empowerment which are aimed at enabling them to access basic reliable skills through training, counseling and promote positive behaviors. Currently, young people countrywide are so vulnerable to many dangers in the due to double influence as regards poverty and unemployment. 

 

Therefore, as a result of the above, we seek to intensify our efforts and services to young people affected by economic factors. There is a need to involve youths in service delivery at all levels and they will be equipped with positive change and effective planning which will also benefit men and women based in project areas and their neighbors. 

Project Sustainability

The project will be managed by the Starlight Foundation with support from the Opinion leader from the communities where the project is taking place. To ensure the sustainability of the project, beneficially communities will contribute to the available youth.
